Fall 2024 Updates

9 Aug by Cathy Nyrkkanen

Dear Casper Special Olympics Community,

We are excited to kick off our Fall Sports season this Saturday, August 10th! This season, we are offering Soccer, Cycling, and Bowling.

Athletes:
If you haven’t registered yet, please do so before your first practice. You can register here: Registration Form.
You can find the practice schedules for Bowling, Soccer, and Cycling here: Practice Schedules.

Volunteers:
We are still in need of volunteers, coaches, assistant coaches, and unified partners for Bowling, Soccer, and Cycling. Unfortunately, we can’t offer Bocce this season because we don’t have a coach. If you or someone you know can help, especially as a Head Coach or Assistant for Bocce, please get in touch.

We also need general team assistance, such as equipment managers and team administrators. Bowling typically has a large turnout of over 40 bowlers, and our AMAZING coaches would greatly appreciate extra help with the team.

Unified Partners:
Another way to get involved is by joining a team as a Unified Partner! Unified Partners (individuals without intellectual disabilities) train and compete alongside Special Olympics athletes on a Unified Sports Team. If you’re interested in serving as a Unified Partner for Bowling Doubles or Cycling, or if we have enough interest to form a Unified Soccer Team, please reach out.

Please contact Cathy at specialolympicscasper@gmail.com or 307-215-4054 if you’re interested in volunteering or becoming a Unified Partner.

Casper Team Fundraising Overview

The Casper team operates on an annual budget of approximately $50,000, which is entirely managed and coached by volunteers. To ensure that all athletes can participate without any financial burden, we cover a wide range of expenses, including:

Equipment & UniformsFacility Fees: Court, field, and green rentals.Activity Fees: Bowling lane/shoe rentals, lift tickets.Equipment StorageTravel Expenses: For state competitions.Competition Fees: Area and State competition fees are fully covered by the program. Current Fundraising Efforts

Our primary fundraisers, the Casper Jackalope Jump (Winter) and the Trail Mix Run (May), directly support the Casper Local Program. However, these events alone do not fully meet our financial needs.

Fundraising Challenges

While Special Olympics Wyoming runs many important fundraisers benefiting the state as a whole, each local program, including Casper, is responsible for raising its own funds to cover practice and competition expenses. For Casper, this means generating $50,000 annually.

How You Can Help

We greatly appreciate any support, and there are several ways you can contribute:

Join the Casper Fundraising Committee: Help organize and execute fundraising events.Sponsor a Local Casper Sports Team: Provide financial support directly to one of our teams.Donate Funds: Direct monetary contributions are always welcome.Organize a Fundraiser: Designate our Casper program as the beneficiary.Donate Equipment: We accept new and gently used equipment (no outdated items, please).In-Kind Donations: Examples include facility use or equipment storage units. Your support will ensure that all athletes in the Casper program have the resources they need to train and compete successfully, free of charge. Thank you for considering how you can make a difference in their lives!

I’d love to hear from you!  Please contact me directly to get involved.
Thank you,
